Jim Bougalis

President/CEO

Jim is the Lead Project Manager for this initiative. Mr. Bougalis is the founder of Bougalis Companies, a civil construction firm located in Hibbing Minnesota. This firm specializes in underground utilities, road and site construction, demolition, and scrap processing. 

Mr. Bougalis also founded Scranton Iron, Inc., a full‐service recycling hub located in the center of Minnesota’s Iron Range.

Johann Grobler

Project Manager

Johann has 40 years of experience in project management and engineering in iron ore, specifically in preliminary processing methods. 

Mr. Grobler’s unique expertise and original contributions fall in two distinct areas: technical innovation and business management. Mr. Grobler has made original contributions in the development of three innovative technologies, including iron ore characterization, Ultra‐High Dense Medium Separation, and ferrosilicon production. While each of these innovations may be used individually to solve various challenges in the mining industry, these technologies are also used in tandem to process low‐grade iron ore dumps, such as those found in Minnesota, into sellable iron ore.

Donna Johnson

Administrative Director

Donna has over 20 years of experience in managing and leading organizations. Mrs. Johnson graduated from Concordia College in St. Paul, Minnesota. 

Mrs. Johnson’s expertise as a visionary planner will guide the organization in business development, project management, budget management, human resources, public relations, grant management and overall day-to-day operations.

Jim Sellner

Engineering & Land Manager

Jim has served as a Mining and Geological Engineer for over 40 years. Jim holds a degree in both Geological Engineering and Mine Engineering from the University of Minnesota.  

Jim has decades of experience working within the mining industry with deep knowledge of land and mineral resources, along with experience in negotiating mineral and surface leases across the Iron Range.
